When is EID AL FITR 2022?
Eid ul Fitr is also called the fast-breaking festival, Eid al Fitr or Id Ul Fitr, and signifies the end of fasting during Ramadhan's holy month. Eid Ul Fitr is an important holiday for Muslims not only in India but in the entire world.
When is Eid ul Fitr?
No one knows the exact date when Eid ul Fitr will be observed. The holiday does not have a fixed date on the Gregorian calendar since Islam follows the lunar calendar. Usually, Eid ul Fitr is on the first day of the 10th month of Shawwal. However, due to the debate on when Shawwal begins, Muslims rely on the official sighting of the crescent moon. The day when Eid ul Fitr is observed changes every year, and the date is different in each country.
Is Eid ul Fitr a public holiday?
Eid ul Fitr is a gazetted public holiday in India observed in all states and union territories except Goa. Different names are used in the various states to refer to the holiday.
What is closed or open on Eid ul Fitr?
Eid ul Fitr is a public holiday and, therefore, a day off to the general population. Government offices, schools, banks, post offices, and most businesses remain closed. Muslim owned stores may reduce the operating hours for the entire month of Ramadhan. There is likely to be heavy traffic in areas with a high Muslim population as people move for religious prayers and meetings.
Things to do on Eid ul Fitr
Eid ul Fitr is mostly marked with prayers and sermons as the Muslims mark the first day on the Shawwal month. Large venues like sports arenas attract many worshippers who go for communal prayers and listen to khutba. In some of these venues, communal meals and fun activities are offered. Indeed, there is a lot to keep you busy on this day. It is also a tradition to visit graveyards and honor the memories of loved ones.
Ramadhan's last day is the right time to offer zakat al Fitr if you have not done it already. Zakat, which refers to charity and donations, is one of the five Islam pillars that every Muslim should undertake. You can give your donations in the form of food, clothes, or even money to charitable trusts and organisations.
You could join friends and loved ones and share a festive meal of popular foods such as kaleji curry, biryani, and kebabs. Eid is a time to wear some new clothes and perfume from botanical sources. It is common for men to wear white kurta pyjamas or sherwanis accompanied by brimless caps. Women traditionally wear salwar kameez suits with ornate hijabs. Women often adorn their hands with Arabesque henna designs.
Remember to offer your loved ones a card featuring 'Eid Mubarak' words as this is a kind gesture on this day.
